POWERPREP® Practice Tests: Preparation for the Computer-delivered GRE® General Test

Use the FREE POWERPREP® practice tests to help you prepare for the computer-delivered GRE® General Test. The tests are designed to help you:

  • Understand what's being tested
  • Gain familiarity with the various question types
  • Become familiar with the testing tools, including the on-screen calculator
  • Practice taking the General Test under timed or untimed conditions
  • Understand scoring
  • Review scored Analytical Writing responses and reader commentary

Effective July 30, 2017, the user interface (i.e., “look and feel”) of the GRE General Test will be updated. The structure, content and question types will not change. As the POWERPREP practice tests simulate the actual GRE General Test you will take on test day, you must select the practice test based on the date you plan to take the actual test.

Please note: The two POWERPREP versions that follow contain the exact same test preparation questions; the only difference is the user interface.

POWERPREP Software for testing prior to July 30, 2017

If you are planning to take the computer-delivered GRE General Test before July 30, 2017, download the POWERPREP® II software. This software contains two practice tests, a test preview tool to familiarize you with the question types, test features, help tools that are available during the test and much more.

Accessibility

The POWERPREP II software allows users to take the practice tests under extended time and extra break conditions, screen magnification and selectable colors.

  • Note for PC Users: If you need screen magnification or selectable colors to take the computer-delivered GRE General Test, you must download a special version of ZoomText® software (PC-compatible only) specifically for POWERPREP II software. Please note that if you use your own screen color and/or magnification software when taking a practice test, the POWERPREP II software may not work correctly, and you may not have the same experience as in the actual test. When taking a POWERPREP practice test with its built-in screen magnification software, you must disable your own magnification software to prevent any conflicts.
  • Note for Mac Users: If you need screen color or magnification accommodations, you will need to use your own screen color and/or magnification software when taking a practice test.

Note: To ensure you have as authentic an experience as possible when taking the practice tests, do not select any accommodations that you will not be using when taking the actual test.

POWERPREP Online and POWERPREP® Test Preview Tool for testing on or after July 30, 2017

If you are planning to take the computer-delivered GRE General Test on or after July 30, 2017, access the POWERPREP® Test Preview Tool and FREE POWERPREP Online practice tests through your ETS Account.

  • The POWERPREP Test Preview Tool contains information to help familiarize you with the question types, test features and help tools that are available during the actual GRE General Test. The tool is available in the “My Test Preparation and Services” section of your ETS Account.
  • There are two POWERPREP Online practice tests that simulate the actual computer-delivered GRE General Test. To access the practice tests, visit the “Shop for Test Preparation” section in your ETS Account, add one or both FREE POWERPREP Online practice tests to your cart and submit your order. Each practice test is available for 90 days from the date that it is first accessed. There is no limit to the number of times you can order the FREE practice tests. Note, however, that if you take the same practice test more than once, the scores you receive may not be a good indicator of how you would perform on the actual GRE General Test.

We recommend that you review the POWERPREP Test Preview Tool before accessing the two practice tests.
